Kevin Bartholomew Brame:1999, Dayton, Ohio

Kevin Bartholomew Brame was born on February 21st, 1968. He was almost a Valentine’s Day Baby but arrived a week later. His parents were Rosemary Peters Brame and Gerald Lee Brame. He had three sisters and a brother.

Kevin grew up in Dayton and was an avid athlete and sports fan. He graduated from Colonel White High School in Dayton.

He became a police officer with the Dayton Police. Kevin graduated from the police academy in 1993. Kevin’s Dad had been a detective with the same department. His graduation must have been a special celebration.

Kevin also served our country for many years with the Air Force Reserve.

Kevin and wife Carla had two sons, Antonio and Dominik. They were very involved parents and loved their boys very much. Kevin coached his sons’ soccer and baseball teams.

Carla Brame worked at Delco Chassis in Dayton.

Kevin was a San Francisco 49ers fan. About a month before his murder; Carla had surprised him with a trip to California to watch his favorite team play.

On November 1st, 1999, Kevin Brame had been a police officer with the Dayton Police for six years. He was in the driveway of the home that he and Carla had shared. He had moved out a few weeks before. Around 9 p.m. neighbors heard a gunshot. Those that looked outside saw Kevin lying face down on his asphalt driveway. He had suffered a gunshot to the neck and had been shot from behind.

No one was seen or heard driving by. No one was observed leaving the scene. After nine in November in Dayton it would have been dark out.

A neighbor ran over to see what he could do to help. Carla was on the phone with emergency services.

Kevin had just dropped the kids off at his wife’s house.

Kevin had received several commendations for his work on the police force. He also had one reprimand in 1999. Kevin was reprimanded for stopping someone out of his jurisdiction. The person that he stopped was also a coworker of his wife.

In the years following Kevin’s murder, Carla relocated with their sons to Texas. She filed a lawsuit against the Dayton Police Department alleging that they delayed releasing the autopsy reports which caused a delay in the life insurance payout which she would need to care for their boys.

Kevin’s parents pushed for someone to come forward with information. They spoke with reporters several times in the following years to try to get their son’s murder solved.

Kevin Bartholomew Brame’s case is still unsolved. Who shot him? Was this related to his marital problems or was this related to his work as a police officer?

Kevin was always smiling, his neighbors said. He was always playing in the front yard with his boys. He sounds like a guy with no real enemies out there.

Officer Kevin Brame was only 31 when he was murdered. He was a devoted Dad who was looking forward to a lifetime with his boys. He had a long career ahead as well.

He was interred at Woodland Cemetery and Arboretum in Dayton. It is a beautiful cemetery with many mature trees. Photos on Find A Grave show the cemetery in Springtime. We can only hope that Kevin rests there in Peace.
