Sharon Louise Ward:1982, Toledo/Oregon, Ohio

   

   Sharon Louise Ward was born on January 30th, 1965 to Margueritte C. (Kunz) Ward and John Ward. The couple had five children altogether.  Sharon was one of the youngest. Tragically, in 1966, the year after she was born, her father passed away. Her mother had to raise the five children alone. 


  Sharon was a sophomore at Waite High School in 1982. She had originally enrolled at Macomber High School in 1981 because she was very interested in auto mechanics.


  On Saturday February 27th, 1982, Sharon left the house with a TARTA bus card and five dollars.  She was going to go to North Toledo to visit her boyfriend who worked at a garage near Bush and Magnolia streets.  That’s close to Mulberry Park which is very close to I-75 where it meets I-280. 



  On September 1st, 1981, a young woman was abducted from very nearby on South Erie and killed in Mulberry Park. Her name was Michelle Ann Hoffman. Michelle had been brutally beaten and killed by a blow to the back of her head. 


  In late November 1983, another young woman, Joann Jaso, was abducted from very nearby. She was last seen by her family on November 28th. She had been stabbed multiple times. 


  Sharon had gone to hang out at the garage with her boyfriend and help him clean up at the end of the night. She loved to work at the garage and loved helping out her boyfriend there. Then she planned to catch the bus home. It was a Saturday evening and Sharon had church the next morning. 


  Sharon did not make it home that night. She was abducted late that night and investigators believe she was killed early Sunday Morning on February 28th. 


   Sharon was found in a snow covered field east of Toledo on Jacobs Road near Wynn Road. That’s near the town of Oregon, Ohio.  Sharon had been beaten severely and was slashed with a knife. Police believed she was killed there as signs of the struggle were evident in the snow. Marks in the snow showed that Sharon had attempted to crawl away. 


  Who killed Sharon? Was it the same man who killed Michelle Ann Hoffman and Joann Jaso? 


  Jerry Leon Johns was free then. He grew up in Flat Rock, Michigan. That’s south of Detroit. It’s a short drive to Toledo. In 1985, he abducted and almost murdered a woman in Knoxville, Tennessee. She played dead even after he tried to strangle and kill her. She very nearly did die. But she was able to identify him and testify against him. Over the years he would be connected to other victims through DNA. I’ve written about him quite a bit. 


   Jerry Leon Johns definitely killed Tina Marie McKenney Farmer in late December of 1984. She was from Indianapolis and met him there. He offered her a ride in his truck to a southern state where she hoped to work. He killed her and dumped her body off I-75 near Jellico, Tennessee. 


   Another young girl was found very close to Tina Farmer there near Jellico. Tracy Sue Walker was abducted from Lafayette, Indiana in 1978. She was known as Elk Valley Jane Doe for years. Her murder is still unsolved. I believe Jerry Leon Johns killed her. 


  I think he also killed Marcia Sossaman King in Ohio. She was known as Buckskin Jane Doe. She was found April 24th, 1981.


  Jane Louise Allan was found in Miamisburg, Ohio in 1976. She was abducted from near Detroit off I-75. 


  All these young girls and young women had light brown or reddish hair. 


  Sharon Louise Ward had just turned 17 a month before her murder. She was looking forward to finishing high school and going on to complete her future plans. She had hopes and dreams. 


  Sharon’s mother and two of her siblings have already passed away waiting for answers.

    On the evening of April 6th, 1975, two teenagers went on a date. The eighteen year olds were Laurie and Gerald. They borrowed Laurie’s Mom’s car.  It should have been a fun night out. Donna Marie Lanier: 1984: North Liberty, Indiana

   Donna Marie Husband was born on March 11th, 1956 in South Bend, Indiana. She was the daughter of Eloise and Joseph Husband. She grew up in South Bend and married a man named Lanier. (I was unable to find his full name.)    She was 28 in 1984.  Her life had been a difficult one. Her mother had been killed in the years before.  The man suspected of that crime was later murdered as well. Donna and her children lost everything but their lives in a fire in 1979. Still, she kept going.     Donna had four children. Three were still living at home in 1984. It is not easy to make a living as a single mother.  If your kids get sick you have to be home with them. They never get sick all at the same time. Children have school breaks and snow days but most jobs do not. It’s impossible to find a workplace that will be flexible like that. Jayne Friedt, Daniel Davis, Mark Flemmonds and Ruth Ann Shelton:1978, Speedway, Indiana

        Police were called to the restaurant by the morning shift. Earlier, when the employees had arrived they were shocked that the restaurant was unlocked and empty. Two female employees had left their purses and coats behind. Closing duties had not been finished. All the money was gone from the safe. All the cash in the registers had been taken except the coins. An empty roll of tape was sitting on the safe. None of the young employees who closed on November 17th, 1978 could be reached.   The local police concluded that the staff had just taken the money and skipped out. They weren’t worried about it.
