Bobbie Lee Wells:1980, Swanton, Ohio
Bobbie Lee Dorough Wells was born in Alabama on the 16th of November 1949 to Mr. and Mrs. Woodrow Dorough of Pell City, Alabama. Bobbie was born into a large family. She had four sisters and five brothers.
Bobbie married Larry Wells. They lived in Taylor, Michigan. They had a daughter named Renée. Renee was grown and married by 1980. She and her husband also lived in Taylor, Michigan.
Bobbie Lee Wells was working in the medical field, it seems, in her last year of life. I found a photo of her in her nurses uniform on her Find-a-Grave profile.
Taylor, Michigan is a nice town. It’s a suburb of Detroit. It’s just a couple minutes north of Flat Rock, Michigan.
On February 19th, 1980, Bobbie Lee Wells disappeared. I didn’t see anything about the time of day that she disappeared but I am going to guess that she was leaving work after an evening shift.
One of the first things I do when I’m investigating a case is look at the maps. When I saw how close Taylor, Michigan is to Flat Rock, Michigan; I had a sinking feeling. Flat Rock, Michigan was the home of serial killer Jerry Leon Johns.
Then I saw how close Swanton, Ohio is to the spot where Joann Jaso was found in 1983. Swanton is a small town east of Toledo, Ohio. Joann was found further east between the nearby small towns of Delta and Wauseon.
I really think that the killer of both Bobbie Wells and Joann Jaso was Jerry Leon Johns.
Bobbie was found on April 13th, 1980, very close to where Joann Jaso would be found in 1983. Joann was abducted from Toledo near I-75. Jerry Leon Johns was a truck driver and often drove along I-75. One of his confirmed victims was found there in January of 1985: Tina Marie McKenney Farmer.
Bobbie was found fully clothed. She was killed by heavy blows to the back of her head. In 1981, Michelle Ann Hoffman was abducted or chased from close to where Joann Jaso disappeared. Michelle Hoffman was found in Mulberry Park in Toledo. She had been killed by heavy blows to the back of her head.
Bobbie Lee Dorough Wells was buried by her family back in Alabama in Birmingham at Forest Crest Cemetery. It’s very likely that many of her family members and ancestors are buried there.
Bobbie had a lifetime ahead of her. She may have been looking forward to grandchildren one day now that her daughter was married. She was enjoying a career of helping people and looking forward to all that this might bring.
Rest in Peace Bobbie.
Perhaps her killer is not Jerry Leon Johns. If you have information about her murder please submit a tip at this link:https://www.ohioattorneygeneral.gov/Files/Law-Enforcement/Investigator/Cold-Case/Homicides/Wells-7
