Loretta Jean Davis:1975, Akron, Ohio

Loretta Jean Davis was born on March 27th, 1954 to Mr. and Mrs. Robert M. Davis. She was called Jeannie by her friends and family.

She lived east of Akron with her parents in the Kent neighborhood. Loretta was called Jeannie by her friends and family. She graduated from Field High School in 1973.

She worked at Superior Key Data Company. She was hoping to go to Kent State and take business courses and help her mother with her accounting work. She had plans and dreams for her future.

On September 28th 1975, she came home from a date. She decided to go back out and get something to eat. Her parents were asleep but the 21 year old left a note, just in case, and went to go get some food.

One of her friends’ said she probably went to Borden Burger. She went there fairly often.

She never returned. She was found stabbed to death further east of her home on Congress Lake Road about a mile and a half south of Waterloo Rd.

Her car was found in the Tallmadge neighborhood northeast of downtown Akron. If that sounds familiar; that’s where Karen Bentz was found in 1970.  It’s also very near where Linda Pagano disappeared from on September 1st, 1974.

Her case was investigated immediately but it eventually went cold. In 2022, DNA evidence in her case was tested and it led to a suspect.

That DNA led to Gustave Sepharas. He was arrested, tried and convicted. He’s currently serving a life sentence for Loretta’s 1975 murder and the 1970 murder of Karen Bentz.

Who was Gustave Sepharas? He was born in 1946. He grew up in Akron and he went to East High School. He looks very normal in his yearbook photos. He played in the school band. He was in the French Club, Thespian Club, and Glee Club.

I didn’t find any mention of him in the newspapers until his recent arrest, trial and conviction.  He stayed under the radar through the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s.

Gustave Sepharas was arrested, tried and convicted of Loretta Jean Davis’ brutal murder. He is currently serving a life sentence in Ohio.

Who else did he attack and kill?

Loretta Jean Davis was buried at Restland Cemetery in Brimfield in Portage County, Ohio.

    Rest in Peace, Loretta
