Jane Louise Allan:1976, Miamisburg, Ohio
Jane Louise Allan was born in 1963. She grew up in Michigan. Her family lived in Royal Oak, Michigan in 1976. That’s a suburb of Detroit.
In 1976 she was 13. Even at that young age she sometimes hitched rides to visit friends. She was last seen by her family on August 7th, 1976. She had hitched a ride to Auburn Heights, Michigan to visit friends. Auburn Heights is northwest of Royal Oak. She left there to head to I-75 to hitch a ride back home.
Jane did not make it home. Her father reported her missing on August 8th, 1976.
On August 11th, 1976 Jane was found in the Great Miami River three quarters of a mile south of the Linden Avenue Bridge. Jane’s hands were tied behind her back. Her ankles were also tied with white cloth and what is described as string/rope. A torn t-shirt was tied around her neck. Her cause of death was carbon monoxide poisoning. This indicates that perhaps she was tied up and placed in the trunk of a car during the ride from Michigan south into Ohio.
Miamisburg lies along Interstate 75 which stretches from Michigan into Ohio.
A task force has been established in Michigan to work on Jane’s abduction and murder case. Miamisburg, Ohio authorities are assisting the Michigan Task Force.
To me this seems like the killer was possibly from Ohio and wanted to keep Jane for a time. He meant to tie her up and take her to another location but probably did not mean for her to die of carbon monoxide poisoning from his car’s exhaust.
Could the killer be from Miamisburg or that area? Did he open the trunk once he was home only to realize that Jane had died on the trip south?
How long had she been in the water?
Not much was written about Jane Allan’s murder in 1976. There is not much at all available about her life on Ancestry. I was unable to find her exact birth date, for instance.
