Pamela Maurer:1976, Lisle, Illinois

    


  Pamela Maurer was born October 24, 1959 in Sterling, Illinois. She was the daughter of Betty Ann and Louis Maurer. They had four children altogether. Charles, Patrick and Susan were Pamela’s siblings. They lived in Woodbridge, Illinois. Pamela was a 16 year old student at Downers Grove South High School in 1976. 


   Thomas Patterman was driving to work early on the morning of Tuesday, January 13th, 1976. He spotted something unusual on the road. It looked like a purse. Patterman was the Township Road Commissioner and so, of course, he stopped to check on this. As he approached the handbag he then noticed a body there off the side of College Road. The site was roughly two miles North of Hobson Road in Lisle. 


   On January 12th, 1976, when Pamela had not come home at the time she was expected; her mother reported her missing at 11:45 p.m. 


   Roughly an hour before at 10:30 p.m. someone had abducted, raped and murdered Pamela. Pamela had been at a friend’s house and gone out quickly to get a soda at a McDonald’s restaurant nearby. Someone grabbed her on that short errand. The killer then raped and strangled her with “an unknown instrument”. 


   An investigation was launched immediately. People who knew Pamela were questioned. Leads and tips were followed. Her case, sadly, went cold. But investigators did not give up. 


  Bruce Lindahl was an Illinois serial rapist and serial killer. In 1981, he died when he stabbed himself in the thigh while he was straddling and stabbing a male victim, Charles Robert “Chuck” Huber. Bruce hit his own femoral artery. Both Lindahl and the victim bled to death there on the floor. There’s very little karmic Justice to be found in true crime. But Karma seems to have visited Bruce Lindahl that day. 


  In 2020, DNA tests would link Bruce Lindahl to the DNA left behind on Pamela Maurer’s body. In 2024 DNA has also linked him to the 1979 murder of Kathy Halle who was found in the Fox River. Bruce Lindahl is suspected in at least ten other murders. 


   Pamela Maurer was just 16. She missed out on so much of life. She is missed and mourned by so many.

He went to Lew Wallace High in Gary and lived at 1145 Whitcomb Street. He was the son of Erdell and Gerald Bunche Jr.  He was an active highschool kid. He played basketball and was pretty good.    Laurie Lopez was the daughter of Frank Lopez. Her mother’s name is not known to me. I think that might be a central reason why he killed.       After he strangled and stabbed his co-worker, Stephanie Wagner, in 2006; he went to work the very next day. He walked right into that restaurant like nothing was wrong.  I think he wanted to be there to witness the reactions people would have when the calls started coming asking if anyone had seen Stephanie. I think he liked seeing the devastation.    After he shot Nellie Mikesells through her window in the fall of 1974, he broke into her home. He didn’t steal anything.
