Robin Szafasz: 1982 Crown Point

Robin Szafasz was born on October 1961 to Chester and Shirley Szafasz.  They lived on West Pine Place in Griffith, Indiana. Robin graduated from high school in 1980.

In 1982 she worked at Sir Speedy printing.

A newspaper article said that she and a young man left a party together on Monday August 30th 1982. It also said that this man was questioned by police.

Her body was found at 6330 West 125th Crown Point, September 10th 1982 by a group of children cutting through a field on their way to school. According to her death certificate she died from blunt trauma to the head and strangulation.

I initially thought that this was a cold and unsolved case.  I posted about it on some true crime sites and was informed that Paul Dressel, who was 21 at the time of the murder, in 1983 was later charged and convicted of Robin’s murder. He served only 18 years for his crime. He lives as a free man today.

It is not unusual that a murderer lives out his days as a free man. It happens in many of the cases I research.  The murderer gets to work, retire, enjoy hobbies, and socialize with their family and friends.

Rest in Peace Robin.  You deserved better.

                       Rest in peace Robin.
