Chapter Twenty Four:Kathy Kohm:Moving Forward

 Chapter 24

Gash finally paid the Kohm family in late July 1986. Five years after her murder and three years after the civil judgement; he finally paid but only because the court had forced him to.  The court was prepared to seize his assets and sell them in order to settle the judgement. Fines had accrued and the amount owed was now more than $6000. Gash had paid an appeal bond earlier of $1000 and that was deducted from the total. And so in late July of 1986; he finally paid what he owed to the grieving parents.

Kathy was killed as an eleven year old and in 1986 she would have been halfway through high school if she had lived. She would have been thinking about driving and prom and looking toward college ahead. She would have been making memories with her friends.

Bill and Rosemary had traveled from St. Louis for the court date.  Bill’s work had taken them west to Missouri for another big building project.  Kathy’s little brothers were growing up there.  They were all trying to move forward in life.
