Chapter 3 Kathy Kohm: Jack Harry’s Phone Call

 Chapter 3

On Monday morning Jack Harry heard on the radio about the little girl who was missing from just down the road.  He thought about that stranger again and called the local authorities. Town Marshall Leo Snyder took the report.  It was among dozens of other reports that he had fielded. He thanked Jack and hung up.  Jack hadn’t seen a little girl but other calls were coming in from people who had.  Each time it would turn out to be a different girl altogether. The search was currently focusing south of town where someone said they had sighted Kathy. But they were finding nothing. He and other searchers were beginning to realize that maybe they were out of their depth.  They were hopeful but so far no one had found anything.

This tip about an out of town man who got stuck in the mud didn’t seem related at all.  Nothing was too strange about that. There was no girl with him.

Leo Snyder continued directing the searchers and trying to think of what to do next.
